Big Al almost becomes Steve Bartman (update)

So there was a little confusion as to where I'm at.  This is me:

Big Al almost becomes Steve Bartman

Once upon a time in October 2003, a man named Steve Bartman became famous. However, not the famous that you would not want to wish on your worst enemy. He purchased one seat in the first row at Chicago's Wrigley Field and made one mistake - he interfered with a baseball that cost the Chicago Cubs their first trip to the World Series since 1945. It's been almost 5 years since that incident, and he's still mentioned as the Cub's excuse for failure.

Last Sunday, I was sitting in the first row of left field lower box, and I could have become the next Steve Bartman. Okay... it wasn't a playoff. The Giants were down 7-0 aided by Randy Johnson's masterpiece. Had I interfered I may have made Sportscenter, but I would easily have been forgotten. However, for a split second I understood what Bartman felt on that cold October night in 2003.

The Giant's were losing 7-0 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. There were 2 outs. One of the Arizona players skies one to left field. Everything got quiet. I could hear my heartbeat. It may have been just me, but I became focused. It was just me and the ball. I knew it was out of play. I slowly reached out, but something made me pull back. A split second later, Fred Lewis comes crashing into the wall and catches (traps) the ball. Out #3!!!

It was surreal. I really could have reached out and grabbed the ball. It would have been interesting to see if I actually would have caught it or bobbled it back onto the field. In my 21 years of going to baseball, this was as close as I have been to a live ball. To date, I have not caught a foul ball nor a homerun. I did get a foul ball tossed to me back in 2002 at an A's game, but I don't count that. I'm happy to say that my streak of not getting a ball continues, but with the surety that my attempt didn't lead me to become the next Steve Bartman.

Big Al gets a Time Capsule

So it's not what you think. I didn't get one of those futuristic tubes where I'm going to place keepsakes of the year 2008 and then open them up in 2058. I bought an Apple Time Capsule 1TB. This means that I can automatically and reliably backup all of my useless computer stuff: pictures, porn, financial stuff, porn, important docs, porn, music, porn, movies, porn, etc.

So this Time Capsule is 1TB. To put that into perspective that's watching 1500 movies back-to-back or listening to a new song around the clock for about 1000 days in a row without have to hear a repeat.

I had a old hard drive that used to backup all of my important docs (porn), but it has been really flaky lately so I decided to replace it before it was too late. Anyways, to make a long story short I moved everything from the old hard drive to the new Apple Time Capsule and after a few days of running fine the Apple Time Capsule stopped working. (I had also erased my old hard drive since I was confident that the Apple Time Capsule was going to work.) I was pretty depressed that I lost all of my music (porn). Luckily it was a known problem and I spent a couple of days trying a few things out and my important movies (porn) came back. Disaster averted!
(I almost did a kung fu karate kick to the Apple Time Capsule with my Nike's. I would have if I had 2 purrsss.)

Big Al Public Service Announcement: If you have important stuff (porn) make sure you offload it to a dedicated online storage. It'll take you a few days to get it up there, but you'll be avoiding a number of sleepless nights crying uncontrollably over your lost documents (porn).

Big Al's movie review: Car Babes

I took some time over the holiday weekend to watch the feature length film: Car Babes. It's not what you think. It's not Fast in the Furious. It's not scantily clad women draped over souped up cars (oh how I wish). A car babe is a car salesperson and this is a story of car babe Ford Davis (Ben Savage) trying to save his family's car dealership from the evil RV dealership trying to take over the property.
(Stephie (with watermelon) isn't exactly Topanga from Boy Meets World, but she  does an awesome job nonetheless.  I look forward to more films with Steffie.)

The movie was alright since it took 3/4 of the movie to figure out the plot, and the character development was below average at best. Probably not worth watching unless you fall within the following:
1. You like supporting local and up and coming directors and producers (in this case a bunch of kids from Los Gatos)
2. You your family or close friend is a car babe
3. Your friend is actually in the move (Stephanie Keeney)

Luckily, for me I fall within all of the above. I've been waiting for this flick to come out since they started production in 2006. Fellow SP-SV alum Keeney does a wonderful job as Judy Gary, a dim-witted girlfriend of Ford Davis. Unfortunately, her character isn't too developed beyond being the stereotypical dumb blond. She does find her way to taking a job as a waitress in a Hooters-like restaurant: Melons. She has a few more speaking lines, but she ends up taking a back seat to Ford Davis' new found girlfriend and heroine Alicia Santos (Caroline Garcia). Awesome job by Keeney!

As for the rest of you who don't fall within the top 3 above, I would save this film until you see it in the bargain bin or as a gag gift. As the film progresses, the storyline has the typical Brady Bunch save the person/business/orphanage/etc. feel with a last minute save by the most likeliest of characters.

Verdict: 2 Big Al points down

Just wanted to wish all of you a happy and safe 4th of July!  Eat lots of food and remember only you can prevent forest fires.

BTW:  If you're in Man Jose on Saturday night, I may get the Rampage vs. Forrest gay-jit-su fight.  Call me!
