Big Al goes to an art show

I went to Irmo's Art Show a few weeks ago.  I'm not exactly a big fan of the arts (sorry Irmo).  I like movies and music, but that's about it.  I never took an art class nor have I taken an art history class, so I can't say much about the Renaissance or the Classical or Impressionism.  A few years ago I went to the Louvre in Paris, France.  I saw a bunch of paintings and sculptures, but I didn't get wet from excitement.

(Some chick that works there, Irmo, Big Al, Britney the worker chick, and Soldier Steve pointing in front of Irmo's work.)

I figure going to Irmo's event accomplished a few things:
1.  I get to see Irmo's final school project.  He's invited me to so many of his events, but they've been on such f'd up days and times that I never have been able to make them.
2.  I have an excuse to drink.

Had I known that there was going to be this really cool weird stuff and food and drinks provided, I would have made a big effort to go to the previous events.  J/k.

(Big Al's latest masterpiece - Crazy Nipple)

Anyways, I had a great time seeing the UC Davis art such as the maze, the black room with music, the pimple sculptures and Irmo's paper punch cards.

Oh yeah...  we went swimming at the "Creek" and I won $30 from Wheel of Fortune.  Yeah!

Big Al meets up with Torino Rita

So I'm recovering from my short and intense weekend to New York. I'm slightly jet lagged, but not too bad. I planned my trip out careful enough so that it would not inconvenience anybody in my travelling party and still allow me recovery time once I got home. Everything was working out great - my arrival and departure time coincided with Soldier Steve. However, the FAA had some other plans in mind. I unfortunately was grounded on the runway for about 2.5 hours due to poor weather in the Midwestern United States. My recovery time that I expected to use sitting down and lounging out was cut in half. I almost forgot to take my garbage out.

(Rita's Friend #1, Rita's Friend #2, Soldier Steve, Rita and Big Al at Dip.)

Despite the unfortunate events by being grounded, I'm happy to say that I made it back without any airplane failure or having to be stuck in New York. I also was also fortunate to meet a cool chick - Christie. She sells pharmaceutical devices on the Peninsula. Had I not been able to make my flight I may have spent Sunday evening with Rengasamy Salami or with Torino Rita - whom I spent Friday evening with.

Friday evening started out with my arrival just at the end of the Turkey-Croatia Euro Cup quarter final matchup. Solider Steve called me as he arrived, so I quickly booked it over to JFK's Terminal 2. Unknown to me, it was going to be another hour before he showed up which caused me to miss one of the most exciting Euro Cup finishes. Oh well.

Solider Steve and I checked into our midtown hotel and started to liquor up at the T.G.I. Fridays. We then met up with Torino Rita and her friends at Dip bar then we proceeded to go to karaoke. Given the timing, I went straight to my hit karaoke song Kharma Khameleon. I brought down the house.

It's great to meet up with old friends. I first met Torino Rita in Torino, Italy. You can look up the events on my blog around February 2006. We then went on another trip to Thailand and Cambodia in May of 2006. She visited San Francisco once in late 2006 and this is the first time I was able to visit her in New York. Hopefully it won't be another 2 years before I see her again.

Anyways, thanks to Rita and friends for a great evening!

Big Al goes to Carol's wedding

***Update 6/23/08***
I have added the wedding pictures to my photo album.
***End of update***

So the long anticipated Carol and John wedding is finally in the books. I was able to reacquaint with old high school friends and make some new New York friends.  I'm sad that it's all over.

(Soldier Steve, VJ, Big Al & Rob all set to jump into action if Carol or John needed to be saved.)

Wedding day started off with a mild hangover given the last evenings events with Rita Torino and friends (more on that in a separate blog entry). VJ took the red eye in and picked Soldier Steve and Big Al up at the New York Hilton. We proceeded from Midtown Manhattan to Long Island which would have been a quick trip 30 mile trip in Big Al's helicopter had he not loaned it to Kanye West. However, we went by Ford Explorer and it took us over an hour and half. Supposedly all the rich folks were taking their weekend getaway trips to the Hamptons and Big Al and crew happened to be stuck in the traffic.
(John you now have honorary V-towne Playa Pass membership.  Usually only the people from Vallejo can claim that their from V-towne.  You now can too.)

We arrived in time to catch the wedding ceremony of Carol and John. Carol as always looked stunning, and it appears that John has been training for an MMA match given that he dropped some pounds by game time. They both said "I do", so the SWAT team did not have come in and save either them.
(Carol is the first from the "SP-SV No Maam Club" to tie the knot.  The rest of us will remain strong and survive...  at least until my mail order bride shows up.)

The evening followed with a non-typical reception... something that Big Al and friends may have to bring over to the West Coast. We started our night early in the hotel bar with our own cocktails while getting acquainted with the friends of the bride and groom. We were quickly asked to not bring our own beers into the bar area (we did it anyways). The next part of the evening was the Hors d'vours. This easily wins the "Best Hors d'vours" for a wedding in the history of Big Al weddings. The pre-party lasted at least an hour and a half. What traditionally would have been a short snack and a few drinks turned into a full out gluttenfest. At the end of it, I was already loaded with booze and all sorts of food.
(VJ, Carol's aunt, Baby Jordan, Natalie, Soldier Steve, Carol's Mom and Big Al.  We're hanging out in the bar that doesn't allow outside cocktails.)

The actual dinner was non-traditional too, but very cool. They started out with the announcement of the wedding party including the robot dance of the brother and sister of the bride. Then came the salad. After everybody scarfed that down, we started the "Dance, Dance, Dance" portion of the program. They took a short break for the dinner and then we did more "Dance, Dance, Dance". I really liked the mixture of food and dance; my stomach may have argued.

(Meridith and Lindsay and Soldier Steve.  They were at the other table.  I'm still confused why we were sitting at a table of married people.)

The evening wrapped down with the after party hosted by Bern Dawggy Dawg. Soldier Steve has some reflective moments with Lan. VJ was KO'd in the room. And as always, Big Al was chasing tail... no success. =(

John and Carol - I love you guys.  Congratulations and have many kids (by October 2009 so I can win the pool).   Name him Big Al.

The tentative wedding schedule is:
Emily: July 2008
Ken and Es: January 2009?
E-money & Tad Dawg: July 2009?

Em, you're on the clock!

Big Al goes to the Big Apple

Sorry for the lack of updates. I've had a lot of shizzle going on lately. I'm sorting things out, so expect more updates moving forward. Anyways, I'm off to New York City in a few minutes to celebrate the wedding of Crazy Carol and John (no nickname... yet). I'm off to JFK now, so I'll post updates as much as possible as the weekend progresses.

The plan so far for Friday is to meet up with Torino Rita in Manhattan and maybe catch a John (no nickname... yet) on Long Island. VJ takes the redeye in on Saturday, so he'll wake us up with Bloody Mary's and haul us to the wedding. Then on Sunday, we have brunch then we're on our way back home.

The big question right now is... Who from SP-SV is going to be there? I have even money on Lan (Soldier Steve's ex-gf) and Rengasamy Salami (VJ's ex-gf) to be there. A few long shots include Rachelle, Cherylle and Jenn. Let's see who's going to make the 3000 mile voyage.

(So the audio really sucks. What I'm saying is that I'm video blogging live from SFO. yadda, yadda, yadda... I neglected my blog... yadda, yadda, yadda... Soldier Steve was supposed to meet me up but we can't because of different terminals... yadda, yadda, yadda... I have a lot of stuff to blog about like Irmo's art gallery, my 29.5 burphday, Kanye concert and a David Beckham soccer game... yadda, yadda, yadda... I'm leaving for the weekend, so don't rob my house... yadda, yadda, yadda...)

Big Al has no desire

I don't have the desire to entertain people with my blog right now... my heart isn't into it. I learned that if you start digging around you'll find what you're looking for, and it may not be pretty.

Big Al says thank you

Thanks to everybody that came out to my 29 1/2 Burphday. I'll post stories and pictures later. I'm just lazy right now. Go to www.lovesthreadless.com for more of my daily musings.
